About the Canonet QL17 GIII

The Canon Canonet ql17 GIII i[ ATTRIBUTE: Please check: to find out how to attribute this image ]s a great 35 mm rangefinder, it is actually one of my favorites, let me tell you why.

This is a small, lightweight and very well built Rangefinder Camera. It has a fast 1.7 40mm lens that takes very sharp pictures and performs well in low light conditions. I also heard some photographers comparing the Canonet QL17 to a Leica CL, and calling it “the poor man’s Leica” because of its low price. I personally think that this camera is awesome, and has a very high quality lens. The Canonet ql17 was launched in the 70’s and became a household name, with more than a million units sold. This camera is the best selling fixed lens rangefinder of all time. Photographers around the world loved this camera and a lot of people are still using it today.

Some great features about the Canonet ql 17 are the auto exposure, a flash sync at all speeds, a sharp and fast 40mm 1.7 lens, a user selectable rangefinder focusing, a light meter, a battery test button and an easy way to load the film.

Let’s talk about the film loading system.

In case you were wondering, the QL stands for Quick Load. The Canonet ql17 has a very easy way to load your film; this feature was very advanced for its time.

Just insert your film canister, bring the film leader over to the red mark, close the camera, advance the film, and you’re good to go!

I also like the look of this camera, the Canonet is very well finished, and it has a feeling of quality.

The only bad thing about this camera is that it is not easy to find the 625 batteries. You can get them online though, I will give you some links at the bottom.

So if you are looking for a good quality rangefinder this is the one you need; I love this little rangefinder, and I’m pretty sure you will love it too.

The Canonet QL17 G-III was my first camera, circa 1977. I bought it at 47th St. Photo in NY. I recently had it cleaned and serviced. It still works beautifully.
